It is one of the most important tasks for today's schools to design and implement a secure and reliable campus network. This paper will discuss how to design and implement a secure and reliable campus network. 2 Analysis of School Characteristics and Requirements In order to design a safe, reliable and efficient campus network system, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of the school in advance. The characteristics include geographical environment, number of users, types of users, applications used by users, security requirements for data transmission, etc. Based on these characteristics, we can make reasonable plans for the construction of campus networks such as topology structure selection, bandwidth requirements calculation, equipment selection criteria formulation and so on. In addition to analyzing school characteristics , it is also necessary to analyze user needs in order to better meet user needs. The analysis includes specific application scenarios such as students' online learning needs , teachers' remote teaching needs , video surveillance system needs , etc., which can help us make better decisions when designing networks . 3 Design Methodology In order to ensure that our designed campus network meets the requirements of safety , reliability , scalability and efficiency , we adopt multi-layer distributed method for planning , designing , deploying and running . Specifically speaking : (1) Designing Topology Structure: According to school characteristics including geographical environment information (such as area size ), number of users (including faculty members )and application scenarios (such as online learning ), we can select appropriate core layer switch devices . At the same time we need consider about different area's bandwidth requirement when selecting core layer switch devices . Then based on topology structure selected before ,we should deploy access layer switches in each area according with its actual situation . Finally we should connect access layer switches with core layer switches through fiber or copper cable according with actual situation . (2) Designing Network Protocols: We should choose appropriate routing protocols for different areas according with their actual situation . For example : OSPF protocol is suitable for large areas while RIP protocol is suitable for small areas ; BGP protocol is suitable for interconnecting multiple autonomous systems while EIGRP protocol is suitable for single autonomous system ; TCP/IPv4/IPv6 protocol suite are mainly used in local area networks while MPLS protocol suite are mainly used in wide area networks etc.. (3) Deployment And Running: After finishing all designs above mentioned we should deploy all equipments including routers&switches&firewalls&servers etc.. Then configure all equipments based on designed protocols & parameters & policies & rules etc.. Finally start running them after all configurations finished successfully . 4 Interconnection Between Subsystems And Security Performance Analysis In order ensure communication between multiple subsystems within school smoothly an efficiently there are several methods available such as VPN tunneling technology (including IPSec technology )and SDN technology etc.. Meanwhile pay attention that security performance must be considered seriously when choosing corresponding technologies or protocols because any possible leakage or attack may cause serious loss or damage even threaten whole system's security status quo so please make sure choose right ones at right time when deploying them into production environment .. 5 Summary And Improvement Suggestions Through abovementioned analysis & design process we can conclude that designing & implementing a safe & reliable campus network requires comprehensive considerations from many aspects such as school features&user demands&topology structure selection&protocol configuration&equipment deployment etc.. In addition please note that there may still be some problems during implementation process so please pay extra attention during this period especially when dealing with sensitive data transmission ..
