The Battle of Julu (also known as the Battle of Julu or the Battle of Julu Slope) was fought in 207 BC between the forces of the Qin dynasty and the insurgent army of the Chu state during the Chu–Han Contention, a period of civil war and political chaos in ancient China. The battle took place near the Julu Slope in present-day Pingxiang County, Hebei Province. The Qin forces, led by Zhang Han, were victorious over the Chu forces, led by Xiang Yu, who suffered heavy losses and was forced to retreat. The battle marked a turning point in the Chu–Han Contention, as it allowed the Qin dynasty to gain control over much of northern China and weakened the Chu state's military power.
