This festival has a long history and is celebrated by Chinese people all over the world. It’s a time for family reunion, when people gather together to enjoy mooncakes, appreciate the full moon and share their joys and sorrows with each other. The Mid-Autumn Festival originates from ancient China, when people would offer sacrifices to the moon goddess Chang’e in hopes of a bountiful harvest season and good fortune in life. Later on, it became an occasion for family members to get together and celebrate with food such as mooncakes that symbolize harmony among families and friends. On this special day, I like to spend time with my family by having dinner together at home or going out for a picnic under the full moonlight. We will also light up some lanterns or fireworks if we are lucky enough to have them around us! After dinner, we will share stories about our lives while eating delicious traditional snacks like mooncakes filled with red bean paste or lotus seed paste. The bright round shape of these cakes symbolizes family reunion - something that I cherish deeply every year during this festival!
