Employee’s misconduct, also known as “mouthing off”, refers to employees taking improper action to gain improper benefit in the workplace. This kind of behavior not only harms the interests of enterprises, but also undermines the normal order of work. Therefore, it is necessary for enterprises to take effective measures to prevent and control it. In this paper, we will analyze the factors that affect employee’s mouthing off behavior and propose corresponding countermeasures. Definition and Characteristics of Employee's Mouthing Off Behavior Employee's mouthing off behavior is a kind of improper behavior which employees take in order to obtain certain benefits or advantages by means such as deception or abuse of power. The main characteristics are as follows: (1) The purpose is selfishness and gain for oneself; (2) It violates laws and regulations or ethical norms; (3) It has a certain degree of concealment; (4) It will cause economic losses or other losses to enterprises or individuals. Classification and Causes of Employee's Mouthing Off Behavior Employee's mouthing off behavior can be divided into four categories according to its forms: cheating on business activities, misappropriation of funds and materials, embezzlement, bribery etc., which are caused by different factors such as value concept, moral level , external conditions , ethical consciousness , legal consciousness etc.. Factors Affecting Employees' Mouthing Off Behavior 1 Value concept: Employees' value concept plays an important role in their mouthing off behavior . For example , if there is no supervision from higher authorities or if there are loopholes in laws and regulations that allow people to take advantage , then people may be more likely to engage in unethical behaviors . 4 Ethical consciousness : If an employee does not have a strong sense of ethics , he/she may be more likely to commit unethical acts such as mouthing off . 5 Legal consciousness : People with weak legal awareness are less aware about laws related with their work activities ; therefore they may easily violate them without knowing it . This can lead them into engaging into mouthing off behaviors .
