It was a cold, dark night and Detective John had been called to a crime scene. He arrived at the scene and saw the body of a young woman lying in the street. She had been stabbed multiple times. John started his investigation by interviewing everyone who lived in the area. He also examined any evidence that might be related to the crime, such as CCTV footage and witness statements. After hours of searching, he was still no closer to finding out who had killed this woman. Suddenly, John remembered something important: earlier that day he had seen an old man walking around near where the body was found. He decided to interview this man and see if he could provide any clues about what happened that night. John went back to where he had seen the old man earlier and sure enough, there he was again! The old man seemed nervous when John approached him but eventually agreed to answer his questions. After some questioning, it became clear that this man knew more than he was letting on about what happened that night. The old man eventually admitted that he had witnessed a fight between two men earlier in the evening near where the body was found later on. He said one of them looked like they were trying to protect someone from being hurt or killed by the other one but couldn't quite remember who it was they were protecting - only that it wasn't him or anyone else nearby at the time of the altercation. John thanked him for his help and continued his investigation with this new lead in mind. After further questioning of witnesses and examination of evidence, John eventually tracked down both men involved in the altercation - one of whom turned out to be responsible for killing this young woman!
